5-Day Trekking Jebel Saghro Experience
Discover the wild beauty of southern Morocco on this 5-day trekking adventure in Jebel Saghro, a volcanic mountain range located between the High Atlas and the Sahara Desert. This unique landscape offers dramatic rock formations, vast plateaus, and traditional Berber villages. Unlike the High Atlas, Saghro is quieter and more remote, perfect for travelers seeking authentic experiences. Accompanied by experienced local guides, you will hike through stunning valleys, meet nomadic families, and enjoy nights under the stars or in simple mountain camps. This trek is ideal for nature lovers, photographers, and those looking for an off-the-beaten-path Moroccan adventure.
Itinerary
- Day 1: Arrival & Transfer to Saghro
- Day 2: Trek to Bab n’Ali
Your adventure begins with an early departure from your hotel or riad. Travel through scenic landscapes, crossing valleys and small Berber villages on the way to the Jebel Saghro region. After meeting your trekking team, including guide and mule handlers, you begin a short acclimatization walk through rocky terrain and palm groves. Enjoy your first glimpse of the dramatic volcanic formations that define this region. In the evening, settle into your campsite, enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner, and relax under the stars. This first day prepares you gently for the trekking experience ahead.
After breakfast, begin your full trekking day heading toward Bab n’Ali, one of the most iconic sites in Jebel Saghro. The trail takes you through wide valleys, dry riverbeds, and unique rock formations shaped by volcanic activity. As you walk, enjoy panoramic views of the rugged mountains and vast open landscapes. Lunch is served picnic-style along the route. In the afternoon, arrive at the famous Bab n’Ali rock towers, where your camp is set nearby. Enjoy a peaceful evening, traditional dinner, and breathtaking sunset views over this spectacular natural formation.
- Day 3: Bab n’Ali to Ighazzoun
- Day 4: Ighazzoun to Handour
- Day 5: Return & Departure
Today’s trek leads you deeper into the heart of Jebel Saghro. Walk through remote valleys and pass small nomadic settlements where you may encounter local families and shepherds. The path gradually ascends and descends, offering varied terrain and stunning viewpoints. You will cross plateaus and narrow passes while enjoying the silence and raw beauty of the region. Lunch is taken along the trail. By late afternoon, arrive in Ighazzoun, a peaceful campsite surrounded by mountains. Relax, enjoy a warm meal, and take in the star-filled sky in this remote and tranquil environment.
After breakfast, continue trekking through diverse landscapes, including rocky ridges and hidden valleys. Today’s route offers some of the most scenic views of the journey, with wide panoramas of the Saghro massif. Pass through traditional Berber paths and observe ancient agricultural terraces and dry stone structures. The trek is moderate, allowing time to fully appreciate the surroundings and take photos. After a picnic lunch, continue toward Handour, where your final camp awaits. Celebrate your last night with your trekking team, enjoying a traditional meal and reflecting on the adventure.
On the final day, enjoy a relaxed morning and breakfast at camp before beginning a short walk to meet your transport. Say goodbye to your trekking crew and start the journey back through beautiful landscapes toward your departure city. Along the way, enjoy views of valleys, villages, and desert scenery. Stop for lunch before continuing your transfer. This marks the end of your 5-day trekking experience in Jebel Saghro. You leave with unforgettable memories of stunning landscapes, cultural encounters, and a true sense of adventure in one of Morocco’s hidden gems.
